About Me

Kevin ShoreWelcome to Healthy Eating for Life. My name is Kevin Shore and I graduated from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff in 2009 with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Public Health Nutrition. I also have a BSc (Hons) Degree in Exercise Science, which I completed at the University of Brighton in 2003. It was on this course that I became really interested in the benefits of good nutrition and this gave me the impetus to want to study Public Health Nutrition at a later date.

I am particularly passionate about how good nutrition and increasing physical activity levels can help promote weight loss and keep it off in the long term. There are a number of diets currently on the market and although they may help you to lose weight, often, they fail to teach you the long term healthy eating and lifestyle habits that need to be introduced in order to keep the weight off permanently. The advice that I provide will be focused on long term lifestyle changes. Other areas of nutrition that particularly interest me include the management of diabetes, blood cholesterol levels, blood pressure, promoting a healthy heart, improving bone health and digestive health. I am also very interested in the benefits on health of regular exercise, including both cardiovascular exercise and weight training in combination with eating a healthy balanced diet.

I have experience of working in the NHS with a variety of patients including diabetics, obese patients, cardiac and stroke patients, people with high blood pressure and digestive problems, cancer patients, coeliacs, children and people with eating disorders. I worked with individual patients based in hospital wards, outpatients in a nutrition and dietetic clinic, outpatients on home visits and groups of patients in the community. Since working independently as a nutritionist in 2011, I have expanded on this experience and continue to work with such people for face to face consultations. Additionally, I have done nutritional analysis of menus in schools and rehabilitation centres and delivered nutrition talks to groups of people and doctors and other health practitioners.

I have also worked with North Somerset County Council as a Sport Activator and have been involved with promoting the Go4Free chequebook scheme, which is part of Go4Life where a number of sport and exercise sessions can be accessed in Weston-super-Mare for free and at half price. Additionally, I am a qualified Community Sports Leader, have a Basic First Aid qualification and I have been DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked.

I have lived in Weston-super-Mare for over 20 years. I was recently involved with some fundraising activities for the Birnbeck Regeneration Trust. I did a sponsored group workout video at different locations around Weston-super-Mare. Here’s a link to the video and my own workout that I did along Weston-super-mare seafront.

I have a number of different hobbies and interests. I go to the gym on a regular basis and do a lot of cardiovascular exercise including running, cycling, rowing and cross training as well as a lot of weight training. I believe that if I am to teach people about living a healthy lifestyle, then I need to set a good example by doing lots of exercise and eating a healthy balanced diet myself. I am a keen follower of different sports, particularly football, tennis, American football, rugby, golf, snooker, cricket, athletics and Formula 1.
